Services Offered

These are some of the more common services offered by The Piano Works. If you require assistance with items not listed here, we will gladly let you know whether The Piano Works can provide that particular service, or we will be happy to provide professional referrals.

Tuning Services

Piano Tuning

This service involves making very precise adjustments to the individual pitch of each note on your piano. Tightening or loosening the tuning pins to which the strings are attached changes the pitch. The piano has 88 keys, each having 1, 2 or 3 strings to be adjusted, resulting in approximately 220 strings to be adjusted during tuning.
Pitch Raising

This process is sometimes necessary prior to tuning a piano if the piano has not been tuned for a while, or has been subjected to extreme climate changes without the benefit of climate control. If the pitch of a piano deviates more than 6-8% from standard pitch at the time of tuning, then this procedure is necessary in order to produce a stable tuning.

Climate Control Services

Climate Control System Installation

Installation of the Dampp-Chaser Climate Control System, which is designed to keep your piano exposed to a constant humidity level and, therefore, more stable between tunings. It is hidden, noise-free, and costs just pennies to operate. It is also the best thing you can do to take care of your investment and to prevent humidity and dryness related problems.
Climate Control System Maintenance

Periodic system cleaning and/or changing of humidifier pads.

Regulation and Voicing Services

Partial or Full Regulation

Regulation is the adjustment of the mechanical aspects of the piano to make it work as designed and at its best. This process should be done periodically throughout the life of the piano. Depending on the age and condition of the piano, regulation services can be recommended to address the specific needs of your piano.
Voicing

Voicing is the adjustment of the tonal quality of the sound that the piano makes. In order to voice a piano precisely, you must have it regulated and in optimal working order.

Repair and Maintenance Services

Broken Hammers, Sticking Keys, Squeaking Pedals

Minor adjustments may be included as part of the normal piano tuning service appointment. Repairs that require materials or additional time can usually be performed during the normal appointment time for an additional fee.
Action Cleaning, Tightening, Lubrication, Hammer Reshaping, etc.

These are some basic services that typically require removing the action from the piano and taking it into the shop where the service will be performed. Turn-around times of 1 week or less can usually be accommodated.
